01e trans fluid...cant get more than 1.5 quarts in??

I had drained the oil from my TDI 01e a while back. I double checked before filling to make sure it was empty. When I go to refill, I can only get about 1.5 quarts in before it flows out. I let it sit a good long while and tried a bit more, but it runs right out of the fill hole. Is there some secret to filling this thing? Capacity is supposed to be 2.6 quarts? car is 100% level.

are you certain it was completely empty? as in you pulled both drain plugs?

if you are CERTAIN it is empty, jack up the driver side and put more in?

derp........only pulled front drain plug. Goddamn it..it just clicked that there are two... That probably the issue right?
