Re: Suspension rebuild- Soon to begin- waiting on SF bushing

As of yesterday, I started working on my coupe. The trans bracket that was broken was a pain to get off. One of the Allen key bolts was stuck and stripped. So I hammered it off after removing three out of four bolts. I was careful not to whack the transmission. The bushing that is on the trans bracket was not on the one Dave K. Gave me, so I had to squish it out of the old one and in on the new one.
I am tired, so I took a break for today.
Tomorrow, I will start again.

i go the passenger side finished today. what a pain in the ass. I was lifting the subframe up with one arm and trying to put in the bolt with the other... anyways, got the new bushings on and bam. looks pretty good for a first time.

Image
i had to swap the bushing on the trans mount to the new one I got from dave since it didnt come with one.
I had to press it out, and then i used dish soap to squish it back in.
stupid trans mount.

Yeah! Went and got new bolts. It tired of waiting. I'm gonna put the car together cause I need to drive it to school.

My alignment will have to wait. Not enough monies, unless something sells.

Glad to see it going back together! Make sure to check the subframe bolts after you drive it a little. The aluminum mounts will settle, and the bolts could loosen up some. I don't want to see you loose any bolts while driving as I have heard others do.

Roof rack and front suspension done.

Had a fuel leak, apparently, but i fixed it. it was a dry rotted line. I need to adjust the idle again.

Well, the ass end still wiggles around, so I'm gonna need to fix the back soon.

Idle is really high and comes down hella slow.

GRRRR. i hate doing rear subframe stuff... this shit is irritating.

ALMOST done.

for whatever reason the rear bolts for the subframe will not go all the way in. I am thinking that the subframe may be offcenter. gonna finish up today. hopefully i can get my alignment done today as well.

bushings were easier to knock out this time, but still was a pita.
i also forgot to order new rear diff mounts... one was in good shape, but the other was FUBAR. I dont have time to wait on ordering another one so i RTV siliconed the SHIT out of it. Yeah bad idea, but it is solid again and will have to do until i get more money to replace parts. when i replace the rear diff bushing, ill replace it then.

I get the rear subframe put back together and drop the car back down for a test drive.

Roll out of the driveway and drive a few houses down and CLANG!!!!!! Crackle crackle crackle!

Wtf now?!!

I'm thinki g great my trans or my diff finally went out at the most random time. But luckily it was just a rear axle inner cv breaking apart. Yay me.

I'll post some pics later.

Thanks to Aaron, Dave K ,and Derek W for offering pro advice.

Car is much tighter.

i am waiting for a paycheck from working at The Circuit of Americas for the Moto GP Grand Prix this weekend.

Saw Bufkin at the race too with Brooke.

Very cool to see people i know.

Anyways. i am just happy i am finished with the suspension finally. Now i need new tires

Did you have a full tank of gas when you took it in? That does make a difference. I also see you took it to a tire shop, and not a dealer to have this done. Having worked at a tire shop, doing alignments, the machine they are using might not be the greatest. The dealer will have the specialty tools, and a high end rack to do the work on.

What kind of guarantee did you get with this alignment?

No full tank. I fill it up after I had the alignment.

I was gonna go to the dealer, but they were backed up and I didn't really have any other time this week to drop it off. On Thursdays I have school from noon till 1800.
The steering still feels really loose.

I know it sounds kind of dumb, but having a full tank will make a differance when getting these cars aligned. I talked to the local dealer, and was told specificaly to have a full (or very close to it) tank when I bring it in.

I hope you arent having a problem with your rack!

the coupe drives well, but it started to lurching. I think that i might have a vaccuum leak again.. but i dont know why. i replaced all the hoses and its still driving like ass.

what are some things that can cause the car to do things like this.

*lurch*lurch*lurch*lurch*lurch*lurch*lurch*lurch

it almost feels like its not getting enough gas, then the throttle gets all crazy, ill get a TON of gas at one time then not enough the next..

now that i think about it. I think my fuel pump is taking a shit.

FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

and i still havent swapped the fuel filter...

Still need:
Fuel Filter
Fuel Pump
Replace the strut tower mounts ( have two new ones already)
Replace the Rear Diff bushing

check ALL of your vacuum lines, not just the ones in the engine bay. Look under the rear seat as well.

Today, I removed the rear part of the exhaust that goes over the rear axle.

The bolts were so tight that they twisted and broke off.

But at least there is no more buzzing sound.

My buddy and I are going to be rebuilding an exhaust with my borla xr1 muffler. Side exit most likely.
