I also have a problem... always telling myself that I'll keep this one forever.. then something happens and before you know it it's gone and I ask myslef, why did I do it?

So far my record is 6 years.

I don't have that problem as it takes me pretty much the whole 6 years just to get the car running.

Just sat and read thru all this, really enjoyed your upgrades to the 20v engine rather than 20v'ing it like most. Love helious as my old coupe quattro was this colour. Stick with it

I'm hoping to have my urq back on the road in a couple of months after pretty much rebuilding the car from the ground up 2x resprays, and full s2 running gear. Shame mines zermatt and not helios

That was my coworker Richard, his is the one with the stage-4 2.7TT / 01e6 swap, full 2bennett suspension and whatnot. Still being sorted but shows lots of potential.

Yes and already K04s and stage 3 I believe. Mostly just doesn't have enough I/C to keep temps down so the ECU keeps dialing back. It also has a glass S2 spoiler slated to get installed that is in my garage at the moment. Nice car and nice guy! It was his motor that I got that came in the old VW van. LOL

mmmmmmRalllllyyyy spoilllllerrrrrr

I better learn some composite skills soon

I might be able to re kindle some love for the 20v if I can get it a little further sorted in the intercooler / exhaust department. It's hard knowing the car performs way better on the road than the #'s show on the dyno - which should be the important thing right? Someone remind me it's not all about the numbers right?....

It's all about the numbers Sean. ;)

composite work! I know a little about that! but as far as the numbers go they don't matter. i will be by far the slowest car at battle born this year!

Even though I spent last week in Buffalo, I bumped a coworker out of a trip to Santa Barbara this coming week. I really need a California road trip in the UrQ and Santa Barbara seems as good as any option I'll have for a while. I spent some time under the car today poking and prodding around, everything looked to be in order so it gets my blessing. Hopefully I have earned the blessing from the Goddess Helios in return and have an enjoyable trip to the central coast.

The weather seems to be perfect UrQ weather, mid to high 60's all week. Yes, 0% chance of precipitation for the next 10 days. I only need 5 good ones. I'm just waiting for a fair-weather comment from the peanut gallery...

I re-plumbed my intercooler charge pipe, taking two junctions out of the mix. I doubt I'll drive too hard on the trip but I already feel more confident, just have to keep an eye on it.

Here's my route: Las Vegas to Santa Barbara Pay particular attention to the Angeles National Forest leg of the trip ;o} Anyone driven that before?

I'll try and make myself stop and take some pics along the way.

we just did 32 hr round trip to LA area. all over, too. up to Van Nuys, over to Rialto, and Costa Mesa, and Placentia and Brea.

it was nice and cool over there compared to hear. low-mid 70's, 60 in the AM.

not alot of wind or dust. ;)

but it was overcast all day there..... no rain actually fell, but it threatened to the whole day.

So just as suspected I was having way too much fun to stop for many pics. Altitude ranges from 4-7000 ft before descending into the valley where I jumped on the highway to make it the final leg to the coast. Temps at altitude were probably low 60's which was perfect. The Angeles Crest highway (CA-2) is 55 miles of just what you see here. Pavement was immaculate although the fresh stuff wasn't as grippy as the seasoned asphalt. I stopped for a couple single-lane segments where they were doing repairs, but I never waited for more than a minute for the flaggers to wave me thru. I guess monday noon-ish is the time to make this run, all but deserted, in the 55 miles I only came up on two vehicles, both politely used the nearest of many turn-outs to let me by and I was happily on my way.

Image

If I haven't said it enough in prior posts, Im completely satisfied, if not impressed with the suspension set up and the handling. ...after hating it for the first 6 years of ownership. All in all, a good day to be in an UrQuattro.

The rest of the week will be life on the coast, plotting a return route.

Very nice, enjoy the area! If you find yourself in Orange County, let's grab a beer.

I really miss California roads. That looks like the type twisty stuff I used to scare the crap out of mother on when she was teaching me to drive in my sister's MGB. BTW, I left my phone at work and don't have your number, so I'll call you tomorrow eve, if that works for you. I have heard some great stories about that stretch of road. Looks like a great day.

Jim, since I have to kindddaa have to be home Friday I probably wont make it any further south to the OC, one of these trip I will. I should be down there the first week of August, probably have to catch cars-n-coffe Irvine while Im in the neighborhood.

Sean, Im not sure if it's salt in the wound - or inspiration, but I may come home via Lake Arrowhead / Big Bear. I mean you told me how great that road was in your UrQ. Nonetheless, I promise I'm game for a SoCal road trip in the Vegas UrQ's this fall.

I agree but I wish mine was in the states, the roads are much better, fuel cheaper and weather better

Thanks for the kind words guys, this week has surely put the love back in my heart for the UrQ. I went for a little (180 mile) ride after work this afternoon. Headed north of Santa Barbara past the reservoirs and into the canyons and vineyards then pointed the car towards the coast and worked my way back to the hotel.

This isn't the greatest photo but look at that road - not a driveway - a road. Don't over drive your 'lane' cuz you never know when you'll meet a UPS truck mid-corner.

Image

Look, Im driving it in the dirt...

Image

Weird "June Gloom" lighting - beautiful blue skies until I stop along the coast to take some pics.

Image

This should be the last until the ride home Friday, with any luck I'll be passing by Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear.
