Did you ever look into adapting 2 piece Rear Struts/Knuckles?

I have all the used bits to do my fronts like you did and want to do the adjustable rear shocks too, just wondering if you investigated the possibilitites of goin 2 pcs in back too???

Seems the CQ pieces might sort of work, but would push the wheels out too far like your pic of the experiment on the front...

i did doug, but decided the price of having to change the CV's and lower ball joints weren't worth it. so i stuck with the stockers. they work fine as is.

Well.....i finally got a chance to put everything i've put together on my car. i attended the ACNA Golden Gate chapter driving event at ThunderHill Raceway in Willows, CA this weekend. it started on friday afternoon at the shop after i finished cleaning the car out and prepping it for the track

i made the trip up to pick up my best friend Trevor to truck up with me. his house is a little small, but it's portable and paid for, in this day and age, that can be hard to achieve it's also impervious to termites and dry rot

made a short stop at the tallest bridge in the US

took a little nap in my comfy recaros


about halfway up we ran into this bugger


cleanest S4 avant evar! alex's ride is pure hawtness, sounds good, looks good, and smells like birdseed inside to boot

the first day was a bit rainy in the morning during the parking lot exercises. they had slalom, brake , and emergency lane change tests for the students. then we had our first session out on the track while it was still wet


the second session out was a lot drier. providing for much better grip. i found that my car likes to push a a little under acceleration on big sweeping turns so i'm going to get a couple of smaller swaybars to play with in the front and see if i can tone it down a bit. in the dry it works real good, hangs on for dear life and can be played with a little, but i think the smaller front bar will help make it seem a little more rwd'ish upon exiting turns under power.

it was real fun going out because Alex was in the same A-group as me since it was both our first event, he chased me around the track lap after lap and we are surprisingly pretty even in power and handling. he has a more modern chassis, more power, and street oriented tires, i had less power, less weight, older simpler suspension, but grippier tires. so it played out well for some good fun. Alex can attest to some of my tailpipe flameballs which i was hoping to get caught on picture by the photographer, but no such luck, ah well, maybe someother time :-D

then we had the big excitement/dissappointment of the weekend. Christian was in his 034motorsports stickered white CQ and Ken Bennett was in his GTR playing a little too rough out on the track when ken and his passenger went for a little ride off the top of the mountain.


fortunately no one was hurt and the car has mostly cosmetic damage...and a lot of mud

i have to say, it was a very impressive show indeed between the GTR and the CQ. i rode with Christian the session before the accident and man, it's nuts. we pulled on the GTR down the straights, but the sheer tire size on the GTR gives it the advantage in the corners and under braking. although Christians extremely aggressive driving style kept up with Ken.

i have to say, everything went incredibly good (for me at least). my car worked awesome..i couldn't believe it. no issues, no heat soak in the intercooler while being beat on for 25-30 minutes at a time, the coolant temp actually dropped once we picked up speed, the brakes were fantastic (thanks Billzcat1), the oil temps were a rock solid 130C the entire thrashing, the Falken tires were fantastic, never got greasy or were ever unpredictable, fantastic feel under braking, the engine ran great, the lifters played nice and weren't all ticky. i was just super impressed with the car, i'm glad i put everything i did into it and look forward to improving a little more here and there and then getting me some good v8 torque. my only problem was the egt gauge was pegged up at 1650 for the majority of the time poor little K24 didn't even know what was coming but it was a trooper and kept the car responsive and pulling hard. i'm thinking about taking a spare NF head i have and putting some good exhaust valves in (i'm afriad of the sodium filled guys ruining my fun) and slapping that on with perhaps a slightly larger turbo if i can find a cheap KKK replacement to help keep the egt's down.

oh man, i'm so exhausted from this post i think i'm gonna take a little nap (might be the fact i was up til' 3:30 and drove half the way home last night too )

i also talked with SCCA champion Randy Pobst whilst taking a leak... the man is normal. it's cool to see a guy that is interested in people and isn't all hot headed about how good he is. i saw him milling around all weekend chatting with people and it was neat, a joy to know that there are some meek people left in important positions. i almost got him to ride with me for the last session but he had another student he had to ride with...so maybe some day down the road also, he signed my motorgeek T shirt, so i have a collectible now :D javad also scared the living daylights out of his GF whom which he was instructing, by passing them at about 140 in the 80tq on the main straight. Randy said something like "i thought a jet was flying in real close".....hehehe

Cool stuff derek too bad for the 2b guys but as they charge so much for there parts fixing their car shouldn't be a prob. :-D

If you are like me you will be ranting about how much fun you had to anybody with a pair of ears for the next couple of months!

How did you like the feel of the Falkens? Are they the RT615's :? the ones that came out last year or the older version... :?

the falkens were GREAT. they are the RT615's(the new design, the old ones are the 215's). once they warmed up they pretty grippy, they aren' slicks mind you, but they are pretty darn good. Javad might be able to give a better description as he's raced around on many different tires and could give better feedback on the feeling they provide.

ATMOS had those same seats in his car, VERY comfy, he even put the rear seat in as well. Definately a good upgrade you've done, sir!

Great buildup, incredibly clean and well thought out, I bet it handles awesome!

Hey Derek... when you installed the zerk fittings into your Delrin CA bushings... did you drill the control arm first, then drill a hole/tap hole into the delrin for the zerk fitting so the grease could get to the SS spindle on the inside?

i installed the delrin, then drilled the hole all the way through to the center, tapped the hole and then screwed the zerk in until it stopped.


btw, i just realized this thread and my UR thread have just as many pages each...and one is only a little over a week old! lol

that's what I thought... awesome, thanks buddy! BTW, what kind of grease did you use? Just curious.

And I'm gonna have to agree with Doug, guess people are more interested in your dirt cheap UrQ haha. You find another deal like that PLEASE let me know! haha

k thanks for the info. I was talking with Mance and he recommended I use a Permatex Anti-Seize lubricant... only issue I see is finding that in a grease gun tube... I'll figure it out though.

well, a little update for ya'll. on last wednesday i tore the old MAC11 harness and associated jumble out along with the original 034 fuel only ecu and replaced it with a Ib system. i set everything up on the kitchen table and hooked it up to the laptop and made sure everything worked properly and then marked the wires before installing everything in hopes of making it go smoother.... and it did...cept for somehow switching the distributor power and signal wires and not getting a reading. but now it's all fixed and i got the car fired up. i uploaded the old fuel maps from the orginal 034 ecu onto the new system and everything transfered over with the exception of the main scaler which for some reason said 27 instead of 17. oh well, easy enough to fix

the nice thing that i noticed once i got the car to idle, is that it doesn't hunt anymore. our timing light was broken, so i didn't get a chance to set base timing, but i started at TDC and advanced it a bit by hand at idle and noticed how quick it responds to throttle input...hehehe, i can't wait to play with this. i haven't gotten a chance to drive it though as i headed down here to CA today. so when i get back home, i'll be hooking up the old WB and spending some good time making her run good. i plan to up the boost to 18psi too wheeeeeeeeeeeee!! :D then once that's done and tuned up, sometime in the near future, it'll be tear down time for the V8 swap!!
