Ugh, that and the loud ass drone that comes from nixing the rear muffler. It looks like the PO just had a muffler shop weld in a piece of pipe to the stock exhaust pipe as it comes over the rear axle. I'm not a fan of the tips at all either. He did include the rear box which was in fine shape, so I'll probably just put that back on.

I'm thinking 3.6 or 4.3 V8 w/034 and a "nascar style" side exit exhaust made with spintech flat oval pipe would be a great upgrade for my cq, which is getting to be more competition oriented every day... might as well put the cage and fuel cell in now huh?

Might have to add turbos to quiet it down!

Now that I have that civilized 4000 to drive to the post office every day...

Yeah it has the big bore, with a short stroke. It's one of the few oversqure motors VAG has made in a while. Should be good for making big powah

They offer the 4.3 in a V8 as well- looks like a 350 LT1 with less bore and stroke. Found in many of the 1993-1996 Caprice fleet cars.

Heh, memories of flying to Northern Cali to buy my CQ in January...

I started bidding on a couple of CQ's on eBay, one in SLC and the other in Oakland. The one in SLC had a very dirty grey interior (I hate plain Audi grey leather, yuck) and roof damage from the owner attempting to drive the car into the garage with a bike rack on it. The one in Oakland had a much better interior (and BLACK!!! MY fav!) but still had some exterior issues.

One morning I go to check on my auctions and find the crazies have out bid me on the beat SLC car, but they still havent hit the reserve the insane owner was looking for. Then I notice the Oakland car auction is ended... what? It turns out the owner of the Oakland car had seen that I was bidding on both cars, and my high bid for the SLC car was higher than his reserve, so he got nervous and pulled the auction. He told me he had alot of local interest and he'd have to address those potential buyers before he puts it back on eBay.

A few days later he sent me an email saying he discussed it with his wife and they want a firm $2300 for the car. He sends me more details and pics, and I'm happy, so I accept the deal. I make plans to fly out and drive the car home. 12 hours before my plane departs he calls me to tell me the window is stuck down. He took apart the door and the cable is frayed and all messed up - what do I want to do about it? We decide that the price should be discounted $300 and we'll try to fix the window when I get there.

I get there the next morning and he picks me up in his new A4 1.8tq avant - nice car! We get the window working againa nd I go on my merry way. Oakland is nice in January, mid sixties, perhaps. But as I drive north east towards the Big Sac, the windows start to fog 'cause it's cold outside. Hmmm, no heat. Fan works, but no heat - no t-stat in the car. I drive on to Reno. Brrrrr.... Stayed over night in Reno and drove to Vegas the next day. The outside thermometer cheerfully tells me it's -25* F outside in Fallon, NV and it's true - there's about an inch of ice covering everything in sight. Yay for no t-stats and no heat

So I get to Vegas and it's finally nice enough to open the window. I open it a few inches, but it falls to the bottom of the door. Great. And I have to park my new car in a scary parking garage in Vegas for the next 3 days with a dropped window. Right. Had to make a midnight run to Walmart to get an allen key set to get the door off, and used one of the giant 3 foot by 1/2 inch zip ties I brought with me (just in case!) to keep the window up, but enough of a gap that I can still smoke. Anyways, the car made it home fine and I still love it, even though the knock sensors have gone 'round the bend on me.

And the previous owner remedied that steering wheel postion issue before I bought the car. We are both big guys (he's 6'1", I'm 6'4"). He explained to me the problem and why he installed a Momo wheel with two extra spacers it's the perfect distance!

So, that's my long winded CQ ramblings for today!

drove up to get an inspection this weekend and had to get AAA to bring me the last 40 miles home. Power steering pump has officially $hit the bed, but I guess it'll do that when the PO fills the system with ATF :curses:

That was bad enough, then I discovered how he mounted the corbeau seats in the car.. drilled holes straight through the body with enough air gaps and cracks in the floor to see daylight on the other side. I guess they must not worry much about rust down south....

Yep, that was the plan all along but I was hoping to not have to deal with it until I was ready to do the swap. I'm leaving the car at my parents place up in NH until I move back into the area mid october.

I'm firm in my beliefs that Audi designed the interior seating position for occupants no smaller that 5'4" and no taller than 5'8". I'm looking into some Corbeau's myself cause my first track day in the coupe sucked. With my helmet on I had to go full Detroit lean in order to not kink my neck.

I fabbed up mounts with square alum tubing for the Kirkey's in my coupe... you could probably copy this setup for the most part adapting it to sliding base.

yes, seats included (they are quite comfortable, not the race-only type feel I was expecting), although the bonehead mounting left much to be desired (chunks of PVC pipe as standoffs with bolts _through_ the floor securing the assembly).

The Berlin Turnpike has all kinds of interesting stuff though, funny how the American muscle cars are typically at the BK, imports doing donuts in the Shaws parking lot and ricers at Krispy Kreme, figure that one out!

Marc, FYI, just packed up a mongo box of 034 Shiznyeit for the new Coupe today, I even had to get the Horsepower insurance on it as UPS was afraid of the volatility during route
