Re: 1990 CQ-oil on the spark plugs
oops, i didn't read the part where he said it was on the bottom, in that case i agree with you.
is it possible that the headgasket could have a slight leak as well at cyl#5 but without a major water leak?

Re: 1990 CQ-oil on the spark plugs
Oil, no water apparent.
Re: 1990 CQ-oil on the spark plugs
Btw, no leaks and not burning up oil either.

Re: 1990 CQ-oil on the spark plugs
if no oil on the top of the plugs or spark plug boots, none leaking from the half moons in the back, then leave the valve cover gasket alone, its a #$!#!@# job on the 7a because of the intake manifold.

Re: 1990 CQ-oil on the spark plugs
Steven, It is from the vcg. you can see in your pic that there was oil on the socket part of the plug. what happens is when you start threading the plugs out the oil then starts to coat the threads as it comes out. for all others who still dont get it, and you can quote me on this, "Its a lesson in gravity."
you can leave it for later if you want but the oil can compromise the rubber in the wire ends eventually and cause a misfire. It doesnt look like its leaking much. if you decide to go ahead and replace the gasket, you will need a long shank allen and may prefere a ball end style for the bolts on the intake manifold. do hit them with a little pb blaster or wd40 initially and before you start to wrench them out, clean any debris out of the capscrew first. second, put the allen socket in the capscrew and hit the end with a hammer to shock the bolt to help try to break it loose first time. if you have one that refuses to break loose and it strip's, you will then need to knock it loose with a hammer and cold chisel.
This will get you started if you decide to replace it now.

Re: 1990 CQ-oil on the spark plugs
im going to try to do it soon. im gonna hit up rockauto or autohauzaz. or whatever the other cheap parts sites.
i inspected more and there is a small seep around the back side of the VCG. This seems to be the only oil leak i have on the cq.
this car doesnt leak anything at all at the moment, except for the Brake bomb... which i still havent replaced.
also noticed i have one worn rotor, almost warped on the drivers side, but the passenger side is still new looking?
i hope that the passenger side is not seized. i am already sure that my drivers side is FUBAR.

Is the passenger side caliper even doing anything?

Dunno...
Re: 1990 CQ-oil on the spark plugs
So, since I have to do valve cover gasket and intake gasket, would it be worth the money to install a phenolic spacer? I was talking to SapperMike and he said it wouldn't be worth the cash for a small gain.
On a stock 7a would it eventually be beneficial! The car is chipped and has the 034 injectors plus a k&n intake

Re: 1990 CQ-new plugs! Runs great! ?'s on phenolic spacer
You would get small gain from the IM staying a little cooler, but unless you plan on turboing anytime soon I don't see a need.

Okay, just a quick question.
Possibly turbo kit in the next couple of years

where's the question in there?
i say yes to the turbo kit
what's your compression across the cylinders?

Re: 1990 CQ-new plugs! Runs great!
Dunno on compression. My car is bogging down...
I dunno why.
I dunno why.
Re: 1990 CQ-new plugs! Runs great!
So sometimes, if i dont let the car run for about a minute or so before driving off, the car will bog wway down and my RPMs will not raise like normal. I cannot hear anything wrong with the engine while driving and its not misfiring anymore.
it doesnt do this all the time, just sometimes.
ive checked all my plug wires to see if maybe they arent on all the way. But that was right after i had a huge misfire. I ended up figureing that out as my number 4 plug wire had popped off? i dunno, it was fine after i popped it back on.
ugh. this car. I love it and i am annoyed by it all at once.
Replaced the passenger door the other day. now all i need is a drivers side door panel and a new drivers side arm rest.
I also really want to get a Kamei Armrest for my car. I hate not having something to lean on while i am driving.

Re: 1990 CQ- still bogging
Wasn't sure if he had or not. I worked on a coupe that ran like a bag of crap and bogged down all the time because of one.. first thing that came to mind.
Re: 1990 CQ- still bogging
I need to check it again. I think I will end up buyin the 034 boot.
Re: 1990 CQ- still bogging
i cleaned the TPS and the MAF. not as bad, but still kinda jumpy.
im debating on getting the Crankcase Breather hose from 034 and probably the 7a throttle boot. I will of course need to probably upgrade my MAF one of these days too.
also, i have a friend who is doing an EGR block off plate... He said should make my car a little more response to ditch the EGR? Would i have any issues if i did?

Re: 1990 CQ- slight flutter still- ? about EGR block off pla
You will get a CEL if the EGR is sensored. It might not effect it too much though.

Sensored? Explain please. Are there more than one types?

Re: 1990 CQ- slight flutter still- ? about EGR block off pla
Some early egr systems used a thermo couple sensor to read when the egr vavle is flowing for feedback of operation. Newer cars use the map sensor readings or a dpfe sensor differential pressure feedback egr. Just let's the computer know it is working. Not so big a deal on obdi cars but obdii much more important

Re: 1990 CQ- slight flutter still- ? about EGR block off pla
How can I determine which my cq is?
Re: 1990 CQ- slight flutter still- ? about EGR block off pla
My number 3 plug wire keeps popping out when I'm driving. What causes that?
