Re: Darin's 80tq...something's brewing...
With nearly 8 inches of snow on the ground it's time to start thinking about the winter project....
I'm wanting to gain some fender for the rear wheels and tires to hopefully fit some 245 and possibly 255 size tires. To fit those in the front will require some fender liner mods, but for the most part they should fit without much issue. The rears will require new fenders. I've stared at and longed for the Vomit Comet's fenders, but I don't want to redo the fronts so I'm focusing on the rears only. My goal is maintain the lines of the fenders, yet increase the amount of fender as well. I believe the best way to do that is to use B4 rears. I have an idea of how I might achieve this, but here are some test fitment pics to get things going.

The tough part is going to be the transition by the doors. I like how these fenders stay with the body curves of the car, but I'll have to cut and manipulate them to weld up while maintaining the extra flare. I think it's doable.

I am thinking I will get the S4 side skirts though to and remove the upper door trim for a cleaner look. A full respray will be the last bit in the Spring.

Re: Darin's 80tq...FENDERS...
b4 doors any differnet?
Re: Darin's 80tq...FENDERS...
The difference is the length from the door to the fender. Where the B3 distance is maybe 2", the B4 is 3" or more.

Re: Darin's 80tq...FENDERS...
I see the bumper as being the PITA
Re: Darin's 80tq...FENDERS...
Yeah, ultimately it would be nice to have a true RS2 rear bumper and actually a true front bumper as well, but I think the bumper will be fine.
Here are a couple of really similar pictures of the B3 and B4 fenders. Big difference.

Trying to capture the whole car in this shot. I'm pretty excited about this.

This is the challenge. I'll get a better idea once I remove the trim, but you can see where it will have to be manipulated.

I don't think the rear bumper will have to be modified at all, it just won't match up as nicely as a stock S2 sedan bumper would, but like I said, my front doesn't match up either.

Check out my front bumper and front fender in this shot.

Re: Darin's 80tq...FENDERS...
Focus on the fenders in the rear, and you can trim the bumper as needed. Get it close and let the tires clearance the rest around tight corners
I cut the corners off a B4 bumper at the yard and was going to graft those on to my B3, you could do something similar. I don't think I still have them, but will let you know if I come up with them.
The doors are the same on the B3/B4, the difference is the size of the wheel well. The b4 wheel is located quite a but further back and the wheel well is larger too.

Which means that a B4/RS2 bumper will not fit.

Re: Darin's 80tq...FENDERS...
Not necessarily, if he does B4 fenders, it should match up. A tucked in B4 stock bumper might be a good way to build from then source an s2 bumper that fits the sedans.
Re: Darin's 80tq...FENDERS...
I'm thinking the distance from the wheel back.

Cool project, I would love some flares like Jim's but not going to get that extreme with bodywork just yet!
Some inspiration for ya

The weekend project: Put expensive pieces of billet aluminum on prior to commencing fender project!
I need to get these on and then an alignment done so I know exactly where the wheels will be prior to cutting anything vital. Any local geekers game for a chilly day in garage?

Update.... Got the head back today might have to run back down to machine shop intake seat might need clean up. Picking valves up tonight and hopefully together tomorrow. You can see a little difference between the head and the newly repaired section. But it looks great.

How much did they have to take off or did they say whether it was warped that much? I have a lot happening to my car right now!
ECU at efi express
Head at Brent's
Plug wires and other goodies coming back from efi express
S4 side skirts coming from Colorado
Control arms ready for installation
B4 fenders being cut and mocked up
What else can I do!?

Re: Darin's 80tq...first things first...
I asked them to give me a nice shiny finish and only take as little off as they could and get it to clean up. I picked the valves up from my neighbor Tyler that works at integrated.... Got a new torque wrench yet Darin?

Re: Darin's 80tq...first things first...
I said he could borrow mine if he wants to. I got a snapon 3/8 thats accurate to 100. If you're torquing it to around 60-70 then thats what I would use. I got a 1/2 as well which is good to 250, and both of my torque wrenches were calibrated fairly soon before I gave up wrenching for a living, so they are good to go. I would not use a 1/2 below 100 as they are not as accurate as one made for that range. Darin, come get my torque wrench this weekend if you want to.
