Glad to see you had some time to tinker today. There's always next month for WOW, gives you about a month to get broken in and ready

Re: Darin's 80tq...the transmission...
There isn't a lot of room.... dropping the subframe should give you a little the room you need. You are almost there Darin.
Re: Darin's 80tq...the transmission...
I thought I'd add this picture for everyone's reference regarding the holes that need to be drilled to take the box. Brent, can you give a detail explanation of the what box it is, what the linkage is and what you have to track down to make this work correctly?

Re: Darin's 80tq...the transmission...
The shifter is from an 04 and later b6 b7 6 speed car. The boxes pretty much drop in with minimal modifications. The box needs to be trimmed down a little towards the rear to fit in the tunnel so it helps if you can find the plastic box rather than the aluminum one. The shifter box has studs coming up thru the floor, so you have to drill out the threads on the nuts welded to the body on the rear. The front bolts need to have some holes drilled out about half an inch forward of the stock location. Then the bars are pretty much plug and play. You might need to bend the stabilizer bar a little to clear the bracing in the tunnel. The adjustment for the shifter can be made right in the driver seat with the proper allen wrench as well. But for the trouble, you get a shifter with stock like feel and a reverse lock out. I am pretty sure you could use a 5speed shifter bucket and flip the ship ball around to change the reverse lock out and then get an s4 6spd shift rod set to work with the box and shifter. I have done this twice on my two cars. If you have any questions, just holler.

One more thing off the checklist! Fixed the leaky injector. Come on transmission!!!!

Woot! Now get that tranny done and drive

Re: Darin's 80tq...we have linkage!!!...
I dropped the subframe and engine mounts about an inch, which gave me juuuuussssst enough room to line that support rod up and barely get it started with my fingers. I somehow managed to get that 8mm allen and wrench on it and got it tightened!!! Put the driver's side on and the bar that goes across the top of the transmission as well. With the rods tightened, I couldn't get the box back in without removing the shift lever, so off it came. Slid it on and put it all back together again and managed to find neutral. I need to raise the subframe and get the engine back in place before aligning everything but for now I have all 6 gears. I can't get it to go in reverse with my quick attempt at aligning it so I'll try again once I get the subframe back up. My hands are sore!!

Re: Darin's 80tq...we have linkage!!!...
Today's progress:
Tightened up the subframe, engine mounts and linkage where it needs to be. Then began to bleed the slave cylinder, but when I was letting gravity do it's job brake fluid started to come out of the bell housing. Not good. I pulled the slave and found it was in pieces, luckily none of it came apart in the bell housing. With everything installed, pulling that and putting another one back in is not small task. But any bolt is a piece of cake after that linkage! Dave Kitterman (scubadave) came by and we got the clutch bled and it's ready to go! Tested all the gears again with a working clutch and all 6 engage and also reverse, with lockout!!
Now it's just the little things, putting the drive shaft back on, exhaust, hook up the boost controller, replace the torn valve cover gasket, and see if the transmission works while driving....so close.
I'm not on good terms with the Mrs. though, as Dave can attest to. 2 weeks in a row with long nights in the garage and she's not real pleased with me right now. So close, yet so far way too given that I need to make amends fast!!

Re: Darin's 80tq...we have gears!!!...
Sorry you've painted yourself into a corner bud. At this point your in trouble if you spend time trying to finish it and not with the fam. But, mad if it just sits in the garage unfinished. I hope you can help her to understand. She was maaaaad!
Let me know if i can lend anymore hand. Or a couch worst case. Either way, i got your back.

Re: Darin's 80tq...we have gears!!!...
oh booo. You have been too much of a wuss over the last 15 years if she can't put up with 2 weeks of garage time. Reassure her that it is too close to quit on... this may be a little false, but she doesn't need to know that.

Re: Darin's 80tq...we have gears!!!...
glad you got so much done. the linkage is rather a pia to install.... just not much room down there. and darin, just remind the wife to look at the big picture least you aren't dumping money on drugs or have a mistress although the audi might be construed as both..... send her to a day spa and see if that does anything for here mood.
Re: Darin's 80tq...we have gears!!!...
I just attached the drive shaft and the exhaust. Put the last transmission bolt back in and will be putting her back on all fours tonight. One more step closer!

Re: Darin's 80tq...we have gears!!!...
It's back on the ground!!!! Man, I forgot how low this thing sits! I just need to change the valve cover gasket and I can test the transmission out. I might wait two or three days just to give Hank an ulcer.
It needs a good wash and wax. Lots of dust build up over the past 5 months or so...

This one is for Ben, I know he likes these engine shots.
