Re: Ben's V8 Coupe Quattro - Videos!

Great build! If you are ever in Columbus, I'd love to see it, haha.

About the thermostat thing, I would verify that it's not stuck but maybe try drilling a small hole in the thermostat, I've done this on a lot of my cars (with stock temp thermostat) and it seems to help even out any "funny business ...

Re: Metro 6R4 restoration.....awesome

Holy crap. I always knew the 6R4 was supposed to be pretty nuts, but after seeing that I would be scared to death to drive it. Talk about barnyard engineering! I knew that Audi "kludged" together a lot of stuff but wow, it looks like the original builders of the 6R4 hacked it together in a weekend ...

Re: Balancing 4 Cylinder Engines

Thanks so much!

So what that means for us non-hardcore race types that want to build a stout street engine, if we balance rods/pistons/etc within one gram of each other, and have the crank zero balanced as well, that should be good enough? Sounds easy enough to me! :)

Re: Bang for buck turbo for VW 8v?

Good to know, PG blocks are a little harder to come by but yeah with my modest hp goals, a stock block with ARP rod bolts would probably do fine. Little Holsets, maybe an HY35? Would that be too big? A friend had a built Volvo 2.3 with an HY35 and it wouldn't spool until 4000 rpm but he had 9000 rpm ...

Bang for buck turbo for VW 8v?

Just doing some "bench building" for a possible future project.

Cheap 8vT. Thinking 1.8 8v bottom (since I have a few laying around) with 8.5 CR, coated pistons, possible rod upgrade. Massaged x-flo head, cam. Want to keep boost low, probably 12 PSI or so. Intercooled of course. Maybe a nice ...

Safety glasses. I wear them every time I work on anything anymore, I have had way too many close calls doing stuff that normally isn't an eye hazard. If i am grinding, I double up and use glasses and a full face shield. Better to be safe than be blind in one eye. :P

Re: [DIY] Window Regulator/Motor Swap (B3/typ89 Coupe)

Also, if the sandwitch/stud/isolator things that hold the motor to the door are broken or flimsy, McMaster Item # 4403k68 is a perfect replacement and are much stiffer. http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/118/1382/=mtysf6

Thanks to jaesunel on MG for originally finding these.

Great write-up!

Re: Taco's 4KTQ 20vt Swap: The Red Baron - DRAG RACING!!

Best way I've found to do the clutch (And its amazing) is this:

Friend under car
You at the pedals

Pump clutch pedal 5-10 times hold pedal to floor
Helper opens bleeder (air and fluid come barfing out)
Helper closes bleeder
Pull Clutch pedal from the floor start pumping 5-10 times.

You really ...

The "best" was its predecessor. It has the most Group B wins of any car, after all.

Re: Chris' 200 20v Revver Project

Agreed, some early TDI and 16v guys were pinning the crank sprocket b/c the keyway liked to shear off. There was a guy that even had a jig to do the modification with the engine in-car. It was an interference fit hardened steel pin. Probably good to make sure everything is balanced after pinning the ...

Re: Chain Stretching Question

Don't forget the 12V VR6 chain issues too. Chances are they need replaced every 80k or so. In reality, if you are doing a clutch on a VR6, may as well do the chains while you are in there. It's not a lot of extra work at that point and not much extra expense either, I kinda see the 07K as the same ...

NICE! Watching this!

There is a 928 sitting in some used car lot locally in town, been there for at least 5 years, I am so tempted to take a handful of cash down and say "lets make a deal".

I am eagerly awaiting updates. I don't know if I have ever seen a 968 in person.

Good luck!
